When re-releasing ancient Star Wars games, Aspyr usually doesn't bother with graphics, simply stretching the classics onto modern platforms. IGN decided to compare the new version of the side-scroller Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles with the original.
The latter came out from under the keyboard of LucasArts and was released in 2000 on the PlayStation console, later also hitting the Dreamcast and Game Boy Advance. Featuring heroes and villains from The Phantom Menace, co-op and duels. The “remaster” is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbos Series X|S and Nintendo Switch from January 23.
The remaster of Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles was released on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. In the short release trailer, you can see that the action game, originally released in 2000, has retained its classic spirit with low-poly models and simple level design.
Users on Steam left very positive reviews for the nostalgic new product. Players praised the developers from Aspyr for another update of the classic - it allows you to enjoy the game from childhood on modern computers and consoles, including co-op.
There were also some disadvantages, which did not spoil the overall impression of the remaster. For example, players noticed a lack of destructibility in some objects that could be broken on the original PlayStation. Also, not everyone liked the overly simple graphics update - visually the game continues to be perceived as a project from 2000.
Peak online Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles on Steam was 329 people. This is one of the worst results among Aspyr remasters so far. For example, Bounty Hunter was played by 633 people at its peak, and the December remasters of the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver duology were played by over four thousand gamers.
The Star Wars franchise continues to expand. Looks like another RTS game is coming soon.
Various games are made based on the Star Wars franchise, and there were also strategies. Recently we were reminded about one of these projects again.
@bogorad222 claims that Respawn Entertainment will soon present a strategy for the Star Wars franchise - this can be done between April 18 and April 20, when Star will be held in Japan Wars Celebration.
Insider Tom Henderson reacted to this - said that the gamer provided him with “sufficient evidence” of the veracity of this information (he allegedly received the data from only one source).
Star Wars RTS was announced at the beginning of 2022. The game is made by Bit Reactor, the project is supervised by Respawn Entertainment, known to many for Apex Legends, Titanfall, Star Wars Jedi.
On January 15, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor patch version 10 was released on PlayStation 5, which is aimed at improving the gaming experience, especially for PS5 Pro owners.
Changes include:
Improved version of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) for improved image quality.
Vegetation flickering has been reduced, making the game world more visually cohesive.
Improved reflection effects on the Cobo River.
Reduced flicker in volumetric fog effects, increasing immersion in key moments.
The improvements also improve performance and visual quality. The update is available for download, and PS5 Pro owners will experience smoother, more detailed gameplay.
This spring they will present a new real-time strategy in the Star Wars universe. The official announcement with the debut trailer will take place from April 18 to 20 during a themed event in Japan. This was reported by a data miner with the nickname bogorad222, who discovered the information on the LinkedIn website.
The development is being carried out by the Bit Reactor studio, founded by former XCOM art director Greg Furtch. The target platforms are the latest PlayStation and Xbox models, as well as PC (Steam, Epic Games Store).
The creation of the Star Wars strategy first became known in early 2022. The developers are being helped by the Respawn Entertainment team, which has been collaborating with Lucasfilm Games since the release of the Star Wars Jedi duology.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has come to an end, and the ending definitely makes us wonder if the show will get a second season.
The final episode of the season aired on January 15 on Disney+. Currently, the eighth episode has the highest rating on IMDb - 8.4/10 from service users. That is, the majority liked the ending.
The series overall has high ratings. On Rotten Tomatoes, the project has mostly positive reviews from both critics and audiences.
Despite rave reviews, the continuation of “The Backbone” is in doubt. It's all about low views - the show had the worst start of any live-action Star Wars show.
According to VGC, Ubisoft's latest creation, Star Wars Outlaws, ranked 47th on the list of best-selling games of 2024 in Europe. By comparison, the much older game in the series, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, achieved far more copies sold. Including, of course, due to not the highest ratings from both reviewers and the players themselves.
In particular, on the Metacritic website you can see that the average rating of the game was 75/100 and 5.3/10, respectively. According to Steamdb, the game has been struggling to attract more than a thousand people in one day on the Valve platform in recent days.
Since the game's release, Ubisoft has made many attempts to attract fans to Star Wars Outlaws. Several updates have been released to improve the technical aspects of the game and more awkward gameplay aspects. One of the best examples is the stealth sections, which many felt were underdeveloped. At the same time, the game became available on Steam and an add-on called Wild Card was released, but this did not improve the situation much.
Recall that Star Wars Outlaws is not the only failed project of the French company. Not long ago it was announced that support would be stopped and a significant part of those responsible for the development of the online shooter XDefiant would be fired. In addition, the day before it became known about another delay in the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Cal Kestis may be back sooner than many think. The finale to the Star Wars Jedi trilogy from Respawn Entertainment and EA is officially in development, with a first look expected in the spring.
According to user Timur222 on the social network X, the new game will be announced at the Star Wars Celebration event. It will take place in Japan in mid-April. According to Wikipedia's editor for gaming historical content, the developers will present a trailer.
I've received some details (regarding Respawn's upcoming game). There will be an announcement and trailer during Star Wars Celebration in Japan (April 18-20). Approximate platforms: Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and Epic Store. The exact list is still unknown.
Update. Journalist Tom Henderson clarified that at Star Wars Celebration they will present not Star Wars Jedi 3, but a Star Wars strategy from Respawn.
When can we expect Star Wars Jedi 3?
It's worth recalling that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was announced during Star Wars Celebration in May 2022. The game came out a year after that.
Based on the development schedule for the second part, the third could be released in the spring of 2026. Most likely, the release will take place in April.
Last year, EA President Laura Miele confirmed that the next Star Wars Jedi would be the "final chapter." At the same time, Cal Kestis may appear in other projects. According to rumors, Cameron Monaghan may play his hero in the Star Wars films and TV series.
According to trusted insider Daniel Richtman, Lucasfilm studio has launched production of a new series in the Star Wars universe. It would seem that what is surprising here? But there is a nuance: we are talking about a film adaptation of the plot of the cult role-playing game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic from Bioware.
Although the main events of the first part have not yet been added to the Disney canon, the main character of the game, Darth Revan, is recognized by the House of Mouse and is considered a completely canonical character. In addition, rumors about an adaptation of this game were personally launched by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy back in 2019.
Less than two weeks until the second coming of the side-scroller Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, and Aspyr has figured out how to sell the game on modern platforms: simply by adding Jar Jar Binks to it.
Yes, now you can play as a Gungan - 25 years ago this was not the case on PlayStation. Your favorite Star Wars character will join the Jedi, Sith and Droids. All this with modern controls and modes for two players in the form of co-op and duels.
Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles will be released on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbos Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on January 23.
