“We succeeded in everything”: Sam Witwer on “Star Wars: Maul - Lord of Shadows”

Sam Witwer has a rich history with the Star Wars franchise, dating back to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. He has voiced many characters, but is most often associated with Maul.

After the villain's surprise return in The Clone Wars, Witwer's performance elevated the character's status. Unsurprisingly, the actor had several ideas he wanted to bring to life with Maul. This was only possible years later with Lord of Shadows.

In an interview with ComicBook Witwer was asked what exactly was achieved in new animated series. “We succeeded in everything,” he replied.

This is a transition period in his life. If you look atThe Clone Warshe did what Palpatine taught him - create a power base, manipulate groups of people, create armies, all that stuff... inRebelshe's an old man on the verge of despair, trying to figure out what to do with himself now that the world has passed him by.

Regarding the solo project, he said, “In this story, he's in his prime and he's starting to really think independently. So to really tell this story, you have to approach it from a vulnerable point of view. What is he struggling with? There were a few things I told Dave [Filoni] back in the day that I'm glad to say are in this show.

Lord of Shadows will show a different side of Maul

In order to maintain intrigue, Witwer did not go into details of his ideas. Apparently, they will be the driving force behind the main storyline of“Lord of Shadows”. However, he said enough to intrigue fans.

This is the first time Maul will be the main character in a Star Wars film project, meaning fans will get to see a completely different side of the character.Exploring a villain's personal problems can make for a truly compelling TV show.

Judging by the announcement of the second season, we will learn a lot of new details about Maul.
