The status of the anticipated Star Wars game about the Old Republic has been updated

Mar 12, 2026

Five years ago, Lucasfilm officially announced a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which was already supposed to be released. However, development was delayed.

At the end of last year, it became known that Mad Head Games, the studio that created Hellraiser: Revival, had joined the development. But specific details were scarce. In an interview with IGN the lead creative director of Saber Interactive Tim Willits reported that the project is in production, despite the announcement of Fate of the Old Republic.

Yes, development is still ongoing. That's all I can say.

Willits did not say when exactly to expect the game. Probably not anytime soon.

The project has changed direction since 2021

In a sense, Willits' response confirms that development has been restarted. Typically active development lasts one and a half to two years.

KOTOR is one of the most beloved games in the franchise, why it needs a remake. We can only hope that the developers will live up to high expectations.

While some have speculated that the delayed development is due to changes at Lucasfilm, this is not the case. They will only reconsider the approach to films and TV series. The studio does not closely monitor game development.

In the case of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, the problem lies in the development process. At some point, “no one was working on the project.”
