The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer features a touching hidden tribute to Carl Weathers
Feb 18, 2026
When The Mandalorian and Grogu premiere in theaters on May 22, it will be Din Djarin and his little green companion's first adventure without the warmth, confidence, and commanding presence of Greef Karg. But the legacy of the late Carl Weathers will live on in the upcoming Star Warsfilm, as evidenced by a hidden detail in today's all-new trailer.
In the new trailer (which you can watch below), there is a fleeting moment where a creature opens a door with a sign above it glowing with the letters Aurebesh. Translated into English, these words mean “Weathers Apollo.”

“Weathers,” of course, refers to the surname of actor Greef Karga. "Apollo," meanwhile, is a reference to Weathers' famous character from the Rocky franchise, Apollo Creed.
It remains to be seen how Greef Karga's absence from both The Mandalorian and Grogu will be explained, but it's nice to know that Jon Favreau and his team kept Carl Weathers in mind while working on the new film. #BePeace
