The creator of The Acolyte believes that the canceled Star Wars series was a "success"
Feb 11, 2026Leslie Headland commented on the ongoing discussion about The Acolyte after its cancellation and after one season on Disney+. The creator of the project explained why she considers the show successful, and also said that at an early stage of development it had a different name.

The series The Acolyte was originally called The Lost Sister, a direct reference to the twins May and Osha. This information is confirmed by the bookThe Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte, written by Christine Baver and published by Abrams Books.
Series creator Leslye Headland said:
When we started making The Acolyte, I hoped to create a new expression of Star Wars, something that would expand on the storytelling that I've loved since childhood. And since its premiere in 2024, fans of the series have confirmed it: we did it.
In the book, the character Kimir, played by Manny Jacinto, is described as a "secret Sith master." This ends previous speculation about his status and confirms his connection to Sith traditions. Headland explains that when creating Kimira's mask, the design team was inspired by Kylo Ren's helmet, Darth Vader's samurai aesthetic, and the visual elements of Rorschach from Watchmen.
Leslie Headland also revealed that she originally planned to introduce Darth Plagueis in the season finale.
I always wanted Plagueis to appear at the end of the season. His appearance in the middle would seem too busy.
- she says.
She mentions Gollum from The Fellowship of the Ring as a source of inspiration, focusing on indirectly revealing the character through hand movements and shadow play.
Headland also spoke about the originally planned alternative ending, which took place before the epilogue with Yoda.
When [Vernestra] left the Galactic Senate building, she looked up and Senator Rayencourt said, “Welcome to the world of politics,”

This scene was later cut out during the editing stage.
