Nearly two years after its premiere and subsequent cancellation, The Acolyte continues to be the focus of the fan community. href="http://x.com/sw_holocron">Star Wars.

With the release of Christine Baver's book "The Art of The Acolyte" (The Art of The Acolyte) February 3, fans of the controversial series Disney+will soon be able to enjoy a variety of incredible concepts and some unexpected revelations. One such revelation concerns Manny Jacinto's character, The Wanderer (aka Kimir), who, despite the mixed reaction to The Acolyte, has received widespread praise.

The Art of the Acolyte Persona reveals that the intimidating, smiling mask of the Traveler was designed to resemble Kylo Ren's helmet from the sequel trilogy. Visual artist Nick Tyrell describes: "The small frill at the back of the helmet—a design element that harks back to the franchise's samurai influences and first appeared in Darth Vader's design—hints at the connection between the Traveler and disguised antagonist Kylo Ren from the Star Warssequel trilogy, an idea the writers borrowed from that design."

The Acolyte Plague is a stranger.

Acolyte creator Leslye Headland explained that the connection between Kylo Ren and the Traveler is not limited to just aesthetics. “We felt like the character we chose to portray Kylo Ren foreshadowed a possible connection to the Knights of Ren,” Headland states. “We just started moving in that direction. That was built into the design of the character, as well as the understanding that we were going to introduce Darth Plagueis, who would eventually become Palpatine's apprentice.Following the Rule of Two - the principle that limits the Sith to two at a time: master and apprentice - one way to maintain the connection is if the Traveler is the first Knight of Ren, part of a culture close to the Sith that we know ultimately survives."

Headland confirmed that composer Michael Abels' addition of music from the sequel trilogy, "The Acolyte," was intentional. “And because we never give him a name,” Headland continues, “you don’t know: Does he have a first name and a last name of Ren? Is he the same Ren? This is a good way to hint at it without revealing too much information.”

The Acolyte Plague is a stranger.

What does all this mean? This proves that, despite what some Star Wars fans might try to tell you otherwise, Leslye Headland knows Star Wars inside and out. She realized that the Rule of Two states that there must be only one Sith apprentice and one Sith Master, as Yoda so famously stated at the end ofThe Phantom Menace. This inevitably raised the question: does the existence of the Traveler contradict the Rule of Two? The Art of the Acolyte confirms that he did not, as the Traveler would subsequently create the Knights of Ren, a community of dark side users distinct from the Sith. Thus, Headland simultaneously created an origin story for the mysterious Knights of Ren and coordinated the appearance of the Traveler with the period when Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious worked together.

This last point is especially interesting because it adds context to Plagueis' appearance on Baldemnik Island at the ending of The Novitiate. Canon has already confirmed that Plagueis has taken on the Traveler as his apprentice, but his surveillance of the Traveler's growing connection with Osha Anisea implies that he has begun to distrust the Traveler. With this new revelation from The Acolyte's Art, it is possible that Plagueis was hiding on the island to confirm his suspicions - that the Traveler was planning to betray him by finding himself an apprentice, thereby breaking the Rule of Two.If we follow this logic, it implies that the Traveler formally split from Plagueis at some point before the formation of the Knights of Ren, after which his fate remains unclear. After the separation, Plagueis likely claimed Palpatine as his new apprentice after the Traveler betrayed him by teaming up with Osha and founding the Knights of Ren.

The Art of The Acolyte will be released on February 3, 2026.
