When the company acquired Lucasfilm, they decided to take Star Wars in a new direction. Part of this process included the exclusion of several projects from the canon.

Since this first wave of eliminations, non-canonical projects have largely ceased to be released (the most notable exception being the animated anthologyVisions). In fact, Disney and Lucasfilm have focused more on bringing back now non-canonical stories into the current lore, such as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade.

But now the first exception to the canon in many years has been confirmed. It concerns a project created directly under the leadership of Disney.

The company announced on StarWars.com that the Galaxy's Edge theme park at Disneyland will no longer be considered canon. The reason was plans for significant changes in his strategy. Starting April 29, Galaxy's Edge will feature elements from the original Star Wars trilogy.

This completely changes the original concept of Galaxy's Edge, which was to transport park visitors to the time period of the sequels. The attraction had to be as closely associated with the period of films under the wing of Disney.

This meant that Luke and Leia could not appear in their signature looks from the original trilogy. And Darth Vader was excluded altogether because he was already dead.

Why changing Galaxy's Edge canon is a good idea

While Disney's move may be viewed negatively by some fans, it is essentially an admission that the experiment has failed. Making an attraction part of the canon is not the best idea.

The canonicity of the parks based on Star Wars only limited the creators of the attractions. Many visitors visit them not because of the canon, but because of entertainment.

In addition, there are many more fans of the original trilogy.Potentially, Disney's decision will allow them to earn more money from the parks, since their favorite characters will appear in them.
