Star Wars Battlefront 2 is experiencing a renaissance thanks to the community and the KYBER launcher open beta
Dec 31, 2025Star Wars Battlefront 2 PC players can now download the open beta of KYBER, a community-created unified launcher and online infrastructure with built-in mod support.
KYBER is a custom server platform and mod launcher that completely replaces the official Star Wars Battlefront 2 online infrastructure on PC and adds various features such as:
- Dedicated 24/7 community-run servers that allow players to host ongoing gaming sessions with custom rulesets, map selection, and gameplay modifications.
- Full support for community-created mods, allowing developers to create new game mechanics, cosmetic items, balance changes and content completely independent of official patches.
- Key changes to modes, such as the evolution of Domination mode into a Battlefield-inspired Conquest mode where matches are played at a faster pace and have a clearer flow.
- Fully functional server browser, which was missing in the official game.
- Proximity-based voice chat, where players hear teammates and nearby enemies based on in-game distance, rather than just through team channels, facilitating seamless squad coordination without the need for external platforms like Discord.
- Detailed stats tracking allowing players to view their career stats on both official online and KYBER servers.
- Observer mode, using the game's built-in observer camera.Useful for spying on suspicious players, watching epic battles and much more.
It took a long time, but after four years of work, KYBER finally launched in open beta to expand the player base and help fix the last bugs before the full release.
The KYBER team also promised to release the source code, but asked for a little more time to make it "more worthy." Therefore, the current plan is to release the game next month (January 2026).
