New RPG Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic has been announced!

A brand new epic single-player role-playing game from Arcanaut Studios, developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, was announced on stage at the Game Awards this evening. Along with the first look at the exciting trailer, it was announced that Fate of the Old Republic will be developed by a new studio founded by Casey Hudson, director of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy.

Arcanaut Studios is a new game studio founded in 2025 that is developing Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The studio has assembled a team of gaming industry veterans, focusing on creating large, story-driven single-player games where the player's decisions affect events. This makes it the ideal partner to return to the spirit of classic RPGs in the Star Wars universe.
Casey Hudson is the founder and director of Arcanaut Studios, and one of the most acclaimed game directors of his generation. He became famous for his work on the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and especially the Mass Effect trilogy, where he was lead director and producer. Their successes made him a key figure in the story-driven RPG genre.Before Arcanaut, Hudson ran his own studio, Humanoid Origin, which he founded after leaving BioWare - but it closed in 2024 without releasing a finished game.

Here we see the crashed spaceship Leviathan from SW KotOR. In one key scene (the Leviathan mission), a party of heroes are captured on board; the player has to complete fight/escape missions and encounter guards/Sith. This is an important episode in the war between the Republic and the Sith.
Further, the Leviathan was likely destroyed during the Battle of Rakata Prime, as its computers indicated the Star Forge as its destination when Revan hacked into the systems to allow Ebon Hawk to escape.
