TGA 2025 Predictions: What will happen at the Game Awards?

Dec 09, 2025

One of the biggest days of the year for video game news comes every December with The Game Awards. 2025 should be no exception, and while we'll have to wait until December 11th to find out exactly what Geoff Kiely and company have in store, we already have some ideas about what might be in store for us.

Whether it's the long-awaited announcement of Half-Life 3, a new Star Wars game, or news of established games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 and Silent Hill: Townfall, if all of these predictions come true, it could be a very exciting night of news. It probably won't happen, but isn't that part of the fun?

Half-Life 3 finally announced

Half-Life 3 has finally been announced

To predict that Half-Life 3 will actually be announced - anywhere, anytime, and not just at The Game Awards - is to make a fool of yourself. And yet I believe there is reason to believe that this will finally happen. Valve may not be releasing games as often as it used to, but now it has a good reason to release such an iconic game: Steam Machine.

Leaving aside the various rumors and claims we've heard about Half-Life 3 over the years, and even data that I think points to some' behind-the-scenes activity, Valve now has good reason to shift its focus from other games to releasing one of its most anticipated sequels. We already know that the Steam Machine won't be pricing it too aggressively to gain a foothold in the market, so what better way to justify that potentially higher-than-console price than by releasing a must-play game for it? — Chris Pereira

A few days ago, industry insider Kurakasis shared incredibly exciting news: a new Star Wars game will be announced “very soon”!While an exact date has yet to be announced, the next major gaming event on the calendar, The Game Awards later this month, promises to be a great place for an exciting announcement.

He has now clarified that the name ends with “The Old Republic”. We're probably talking about the long-shelved Knights of the Old Republic remake, which seems to be throwing a party for its unplanned hiatus. Announced in 2021, this project has postponed all its plans indefinitely in 2022, as if it were a risk-free vacation. Development, as always, moved from Aspyr Media to Saber Interactive, and there were so few updates that they could be counted on the fingers of one hand. But don't worry! Saber management constantly repeats that the remake is still in development and is still a priority, like the last piece of pizza at the party.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, which began in 2020, is just one game away from completion, and it wouldn't be surprising if Square Enix announced it at The Game Awards. There is already a precedent: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was announced at Geoff Keeley's show at Summer Games Fest 2023, and Square Enix confirmed that it knows exactly when it will officially unveil threequel.

Will the game stick to the same name as the previous two games and be called Final Fantasy Reunion? Will we see more yellow paint ? Will the convoluted story revolving around multiverse theories and fateful battles finally make sense? All of these questions could potentially be answered by the teaser trailer.— Darrin Bontheis

Blood of the Dawnbringer

Blood of the Dawnbringer

The Witcher 4 is not expected to be released before 2027, he won't be at this year's The Game Awards either, but Blood of the Dawnstrider promises to be a game that may quench your thirst for swords and sorcery. Developers Rebel Wolves enlisted several Witcher veterans to help create this third-person action game. Players explore 14th century Europe and fight monsters to save their family. We've seen Blood of the Dawnwalker appear throughout the year—a big gameplay trailer dropped at August's Future Games Show—and a fresh look for this supernatural medieval adventure ahead of its 2026 release on PC and consoles would be a welcome sight. — Darrin Bontheis

Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes

Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes

Some of the best moments from The Game Awards come from Remedy Entertainment, and the first look at the Max Payne remakes could be an exciting announcement. In light of the fact that FBC: Firebreak has experienced sales difficulties since launch and low player engagement, the decent presentation of the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 may serve as a reminder of why Remedy is at the top of its game when it comes to making single-player games adventure games. Rockstar Games is funding the project and both classic shooters will be released as a single product for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.—Darrin Bontus

Borderlands 4 DLC

Borderlands 4 DLC

The best stories in the Borderlands games come not from the main campaigns, but from the expansions to them. Tiny Tina's Dungeon Assault, Klaptastic Journey, and Moxxi's Jackpot Handsome Heist are just a few notable examples, meaning Borderlands 4 has a hole to fill upon release. We already know what the first expansion will be: "Crazy Ellie and the Vault of the Damned" is described as a bloody story inspired by cosmic horror. It sounds like a fun time when viewed through the lens of Borderlands, and we'd love to see a teaser trailer showcasing all the chaos that comes with its 2026 release. — Darrin Bontheis

A teaser for the next 3D Mario has been released

A teaser for the next 3D Mario has been released

2025 marks the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., and although the character has been around for a long time before that, it's seen as a major milestone - just look at Macy's Day Parade this year. Nintendo is obviously working on a 3D Mario game, given that it's been over eight years since Super Mario Odyssey was released, but why wait until next summer outside of E3 to get a first look at it? Fresh off the success of Donkey Kong Bananza, Nintendo has an opportunity to show eager gamers what the increased power of Switch 2 could mean for the Mushroom Kingdom... or at least for the Mushroom Kingdom when everyone isn't driving karts. I don't expect we'll see much, but The Game Awards is the perfect time to tease what's to come for everyone's favorite mustachioed plumber.— Gabe Gurwin

Wolverine movie trailer from Marvel

Trailer for the film "Wolverine" from Marvel

Insomniac started rolling out the red carpet for its next big superhero game earlier this year, so now's the time to ramp up the hype. We'll definitely get to know Wolverine a little more this year, likely focusing on plot details to better understand what kind of villains Logan will have to face. We already know that this installment will be more mature than its sister Spider-Man series, as Wolverine's powers allow him to disembowel, so we'll be curious to see who he'll "nickel" along the way. —Steve Watts

State of Decay 3 will be released in 2026 year

State of Decay 3 will be released in 2026

It's been a while since we've heard anything about State of Decay 3, the long-awaited sequel to the open-world zombie survival game from Undead Labs. I think this could not only be one of the biggest Xbox games in a long time, but will become one as early as next year. Now would be a good time to announce a release date, although for now I'm expecting the trailer to end with a vague "2026" without any specifics. We've seen mostly cinematic trailers so far, so a new exciting trailer giving us a glimpse of the actual gameplay would be both exciting and, in my opinion, very timely. —Mark Delaney

Silent Hill: Townfall Returns

Silent Hill: Townfall returns

Amid the Silent Hill revival that many have enjoyed over the past few years, one previously announced game still remains under the public eye: No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall. The team behind indie horror standouts Observation and Stories Untold were one of several to debut their project back in 2022. But while the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill F have since received widespread critical acclaim, Townfall is still shrouded in mystery. What kind of game will this be?I think players should expect from the team's previous games to be more adventure games than the traditional Silent Hill, and I think that will be clear at The Game Awards 2025. — Mark Delaney

More about the Disney Fortnite project

More about the Disney Fortnite project

In February 2024, Disney and Epic announced a $1.5 billion partnership. As part of the collaboration, Disney said it would work with the Fortnite developer to create "expansive and open games" and a larger "universe of entertainment" related to Fortnite. However, we haven't seen or learned much about what this means in practice yet. Hopefully Epic and Disney will finally reveal more about this collaboration at The Game Awards and give fans something to get excited about. This doesn't require much. After all, for a die-hard Disney fan like me, the idea of a “virtual Disney World” is already very appealing in itself.

Disney is home to some of the most iconic franchises and is renowned for its care and attention to creative storytelling, and I'm excited to see how that translates into Fortnite. After all, Fortnite isn't just a battle royale game, it's a platform, or metaverse, for all kinds of interconnected experiences. Hopefully Disney and Epic can create something magical, whatever the companies come up with together in the world of Fortnite. — Eddie Makuch

Blade from Arkane Lyon received the first full trailer

Blade from Arkane Lyon received the first full trailer

Shortly after Arkane Lyon unveiled Marvel's Blade at The Game Awards 2023, studio creative director Dinga Bakaba told viewers that do not expect new announcementsof the game. It's been two years since Bakaba gave us a long, quiet wait, and this seems like the right time for the studio to wait before revealing more details about its next game. So I think we'll see the first full trailer for Marvel's Blade - which will hopefully give us a more in-depth look at potential gameplay and how Arkane Lyon's previous work on Dishonored and Deathloop will shape Blade's core gameplay. —Jessica Cogswell

Announcement of the second addition to Diablo 4

Announcement of the second addition to Diablo 4

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier may have said that Jeff Keeley's reference to the demonic statue in the desert is not related to Diablo 4 but That doesn't mean Blizzard's ARPG won't be at the show. Blizzard has been hard at work on seasonal updates and major system overhauls throughout 2025, but has not yet announced its plans for 2026. If Diablo 4 still plans to receive a second expansion in 2026 as planned, The Game Awards would be the perfect place to debut a new, top-notch cinematic teaser showcasing the future of the dark fantasy world of Sanctuary. The timing also makes sense, considering that BlizzCon 2026 will not take place until September. What exactly Diablo 4's next expansion will entail is unknown, but it will likely introduce a new region of the world to explore, more gameplay mechanics, and an additional class. If rumors are to be believed, this new class could even be the fan-favorite Paladin, which would also be a great announcement at TGA. -- Cameron Koch

Tekken 8 Season 3 DLC Announcement

Tekken 8 Season 3 DLC announcement

Tekken 8 is going through hard times right now.The community spent much of the second season—which began in March with Anna Williams and ended on December 2 with new character Miari Zo—resisting the biggest gameplay changes yet. The Game Awards, which saw Tekken 8's big announcement last year with Final Fantasy XVI's Clive joining the team, comes at a good time, as a big Season 3 announcement could set things right. I think this will happen, and in addition, the announcement will be accompanied by a guest appearance, which will be the first since Clive.

As for who that guest will be, Tifa Lockhart is a highly sought after candidate, and with the third installment of the FF7 remake approaching, it looks like the stars are pulling out all the stops for it. However, Tekken can be weird with its guests (hi, Negan), so let's throw in an unexpected name too: The Bride from Kill Bill. — Jason Fanelli

New characters for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

New characters for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls shocked the fighting game community with its June debut. A fighting game with team division, Marvel characters and a new four-on-four format isnotCapcom?! Interest was piqued, but even after two closed beta tests and several trailers, no new characters have been introduced since the June debut. I think this will change at The Game Awards and we will get new characters for the Marvel Tokon gaming roster.

There are a few good candidates to choose from, and with four-on-four combat coming to the game, I predict we'll get four more characters. Let's take Hulk as a powerful fighter, Black Widow as a zoner who shoots powerful projectiles, Groot and Rocket as a double, and Wolverine as a classic fighter ready for a quick onslaught.— Jason Fanelli

Resident Evil Requiem features a veteran character from Resident Evil

Resident Evil Requiem features a veteran Resident Evil character

Each Resident Evil Requiem trailer has further confused the mystery of the franchise's return to Raccoon City. However, although the location was shown, none of the characters we grew to love while fighting in it have yet to appear. I think this will change at The Game Awards and the new Requiem trailer will once again introduce a familiar face.

Many fans are expecting Leon Kennedy to appear, and that makes sense. However, he is not the only one with ties to Raccoon City. While we've seen Chris Redfield in RE Village, his sister Claire hasn't appeared on the show in a while. However, and this is perhaps even more interesting, Chris’s first partner Jill Valentine did not appear either. Any of these heroines from RE history would be suitable for a supporting role in Requiem. — Jason Fanelli

A deeper look at the Persona 4 revival

A deeper look at the Persona 4 revival

After several rumors and leaks, the Persona 4 remake, Persona 4 Revival, has finally arrived announcedearlier this year. The game first appeared as part of the Summer Game Fest Showcase on Xbox with a very short trailer that essentially just confirmed its existence and showed off the white-haired protagonist. It's been six months since that first look, and I'm hoping that a longer trailer - showcasing the game's new voice acting, more gameplay, any changes or quality-of-life improvements, and maybe even a release date - will be unveiled at The Game Awards.Considering that about six months passed between the announcement of Persona 3 Reload and its release date, this doesn't seemall thatincredible, but I'll cross my fingers and put "Heartbeat, Heartbreak" on repeat just in case. —Jessica Cogswell

Fable finally got a release date

Fable finally got a release date

Despite no matter, it looks like Xbox is hard at work on the next Fable game. In the five years since the action-adventure title was announced, we've seen two short trailers: one with a touchingly irreverent British plot, and the other with pre-alpha gameplay. Based on both, the upcoming reboot looks like a polished return to the series' old format, but we haven't seen enough gameplay to be sure yet. However, I hope to see a longer trailer at The Game Awards, whichpossiblywill include a release date. —Jessica Cogswell
