Fans of the franchise have known since the days ofAttack of the Clonesthat Qui-Gon was trained by Count Dooku. However, their relationship was not particularly revealed.

A new canon comic reveals more information about Padawan Qui-Gon's past. We learned how he became a rebel Jedi who eventually found the Chosen One.

The origin of Qui-Gon in the new canon

Star Wars: Jedi Knights features several members of the Jedi Order, but Qui-Gon often takes center stage. Much of each issue's storyline centers around Corlys Rath, a mysterious assassin pursuing Qui-Gon for a deeply personal purpose.

After a near-fatal attack in issue nine, Qui-Gon reveals why Rath is hunting him. And this dates back to the times of his padawan. The comic reveals an incident on the planet Sinsara.

As a Padawan, Qui-Gon was tasked by Dooku to lead a mission to help a group of villages that had been attacked by a band of raiders. Seeking peace talks with the brutal villains, Qui-Gon resorted to diplomatic efforts that failed and the situation escalated.

Forced to retreat briefly, Dooku encourages the young Qui-Gon to think beyond the Jedi Code. Having suggested that the young padawan embrace aggression and turn his anger into a weapon, Qui-Gon, while telling his padawan (Obi-Wan Kenobi), confirms that Dooku's instructions were bad.

Qui-Gon remembers Dooku's teachings in Jedi Knights #9

The Sinsara incident from the past indicates that Qui-Gon made a big mistake by following Dooku's teachings. The incident is clearly connected with Rat's vendetta.

Dooku's willingness to sacrifice the principles of the Jedi not only influenced his fate, but also directly affected Qui-Gon.It is curious that he once accepted circumstances that were contrary to Jedi philosophy.

After all, fans already know that Qui-Gon acted differently from other Jedi. He was known to concentrate more on the Living Force, ignore rigid doctrines and often listen to himself.
