Like in “Star Wars”: scientists have found exoplanets with double sunsets
Nov 06, 2025
Using NASA's TESS spacecraft, scientists have discovered three exoplanets orbiting twin stars. The size of these planets is similar to the size of Earth, and they are located approximately 190 light years from our planet. Researchers say this discovery could change our understanding of how planets form in complex systems with two star sets.
The planets in the TOI-2267 system are especially interesting because of their unique locations. According to the researchers, here two planets pass by one star, and a third passes by its companion star. Researchers believe this makes TOI-2267 the first known binary system with planets orbiting both of its stars. Moreover, if life existed on one of these exoplanets, its inhabitants would be able to observe double sunsets - like on Tatooine from Star Wars.
