Non-canonical Star Wars will show the restoration of the Jedi Order

[Sunday, June 7, 2026]

In 2026, a new Jedi Order will appear on screens before we see Rey Skywalker's Order. The heroine Daisy Ridley is one of the most important characters in Star Wars, since she is the only hope in the galaxy for the restoration of the Jedi.

Rey may continue to play an important role in the universe in the future. Several upcoming films could bring her back to the big screen, including Simon Kinberg's trilogy. Suffice it to say that Rey is essential to Star Wars, but a new character has recently emerged who has, in a sense, replaced her.

The non-canon animated series Star Wars Visions introduced La Cara, who performs many of the same functions as Rey in canon. Like Rey, La Cara is a Force-sensitive girl living in an era when the number of Jedi has been reduced to a few. The heroine must restore the Jedi Order, and this will happen soon.

La Cara will restore the Jedi Order before Rey

AlthoughStar Wars Visionsis an anthology, La Cara's story inThe Ninth JediandDuelis an exception. A standalone spin-off is in development and is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in late 2026.

In the episodesVisionsLa Cara joined the other three surviving Jedi and became the ninth Jedi of the galaxy, as the title suggests. The heroine convinced her companions - Margrave Yuro, Ethan and Gomen - to help her save her father, who created lightsabers.

The stand-alone animated series “The Ninth Jedi” will finally be able to show how Kara and her friends restore the Order. Presumably, the series will have eight episodes, so the authors can fully immerse themselves in the story.

Whether they will start training young Jedi or turn to someone wiser, time will tell. ButThe Ninth Jediis finally set to deliver on Lucasfilm's promise to show the restoration of the Jedi Order.

In general, it seems that the studio doesn't quite understand what they want to do with the post-sequel era.Star Wars: Starfightertakes place during this period, but it is not Episode X. And there is no guarantee that Rey will appear in the film.

The Ninth Jedi could usher in a new era of Star Wars

The upcoming standalone project will introduce the new Jedi Order to the screen for the first time, which in itself is an important event. But the show could also have much more far-reaching consequences.

Star Wars has been struggling for some time now. “Skywalker. The RisingandThe Acolytehave been divisive among fans, andThe Mandalorian and Groguhave posted some of the franchise's worst box office performances. Disney and Lucasfilm need to come up with something new.

Visions can be a blueprint for exactly how to do this. If a standalone Jedi series proves to be a hit, it could signal to executives that non-canonical stories can be commercially successful. Perhaps it's time for the franchise to step aside from the canon to give the authors a free hand.
